Tree & Wreath Sale

The tree sale started in 1946. The sale has been located at the corner of Lombard & Chautauqua Blvd. In 1953 the Club purchased the property from Kenneth & Dorothy Grant.

Over the years the tree sale has become your full-service tree lot. Customers are treated to hot chocolate, coffee, and snacks and can choose from Douglas Fir, Grand Firs, or Nobles Firs plus wreaths. Trees are carried to the pricing station and taken into the cut station for the trimming of branches and fresh cut. Then the tree goes to the tree shaker, then to the bailer, then to the loading zone. Customers drive their cars to the loading zone and the tree is loaded onto to vehicle and tied down.

The tree and wreath sale has become a community event each holiday season. The sale starts the day after Thanksgiving each year and continues until the trees sell out. A wreath sale was added in 2013 for organizations to earn additional funding. Customers can now purchase wreaths at the tree lot or order on the POC website.

The tree sale has grown from a little blue shed on the corner to its current configuration.  Over 30 organizations receive donations based on each group’s participation in the sale. Volunteers donate over 3,400 hours of community service each season, unloading four semi trucks with over 1,000 trees per load. Nonprofit participation in the wreath sale earns profits from each wreath sold.

2023 Tree Sale

Letter to Coordinators, 1-page PDF

Hi Coordinators,

The Peninsula Optimist Club is very excited about the upcoming Christmas tree sale. This will be our 76th year on the corner of N. Lombard & N. Chautauqua Blvd.

I’d like to encourage all organizations to promote the tree and wreath sale. The better we work together, the greater our success will be in providing funding to our groups.

The Club requires all members and adult volunteers age 18 and older to have a background check. If you did a background check in 2022 you don’t need to complete it in 2023. We are asking that the background checks be completed by November 20th. The Club covers the cost of the Background check. If you can’t remember if you completed a background check last year, contact Bonnie Jackson at All forms are on the Club website.

Additionally, Volunteers must complete a Volunteer Waiver. Both adult and minor waiver release forms are on this Volunteer Waiver page.

The Club has 3 opportunities to raise funds for your organization.

  • $10.00 coupon: Your organization distributes coupons to family & friends. They print off or show the sales team the coupon on their phone. Your group receives credit for each one returned. The Club is working on the coupons. We have to create one for each organization with your group name. I’ll send it out when completed.
  • Wreath Sale: The wreath promotion flier attached to this email is ready to go. This sale is very simple. Direct customers to the POC website to order wreaths and garlands and your organization will receive 50% of the profits from each item sold. No order forms and no collecting of funds on your end.
  • Volunteer hours: The tree sale is staffed by volunteers. Organizations sign up their group members to volunteer Monday to Sunday at the Tree Lot. Organizations receive funding based on the total amount of hours volunteered. The Club was able to donate $14.75 per hour volunteered last season.
  • I’m looking for a group that can put their creativity to work decorating the tree lot this season. Contact me if you’re interested.

Coordinators will have access to the following Google documents.

  • Volunteer Schedule: Look at examples/directions on the schedule for how to sign up.
  • Weekend Duty Schedule: Volunteers know their station assignment on the weekend.
  • Promotional materials.
  • Volunteer expectations.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone to have a successful sale this season. I can be reached at or 503-260-4271.
